Direct flights from Australia to Phnom Penh coming in early 2012:
A recent article in the Phnom Penh Post, Australian airline will launch direct flights to the Kingdom, piqued my interest. The article was very coy about which airline it was and when they were going to start sending flights over, but it did say that they would start “early next year.”
Further down in the article were a couple of interesting statistics. Numbers of overseas visitors to Cambodia are up 15% and topped 2 million last year and the numbers of Australian visitors has been steadily climbing and were up 8% this year from the previous year. Hopefully a direct flight will boost the Australian numbers. I can’t imagine why more Australians wouldn’t want to visit Cambodia and especially Sihanoukville. They’re always complaining about Bali being too crowded and touristy. Why not come here before Sihanoukville becomes to touristy, too?
Anyway, you heard it here first, unless you happen to have grabbed the 11/11/11 edition of the Phnom Penh Post at your local newsagent in Australia. Now what’s stopping you, Australia? With direct flights from Australia to Phnom Penh and the Coolabah Resort to stay in when you’re in Sihanoukville, you’ll feel right at home!
